Artist Emulation - Bill Atkinson

Bill Atkinson is a digital photographer, his primary focus being on nature. His interest in photography began at the age of ten, when he was given a subscription to "Arizona Highways" magazine. The periodical featured many nature photographs, which inspired Atkinson to attempt his own photos. Atikinson is also known as a valuable member of the Apple Macintosh development team from 1978 to 1990. Among the many projects he worked on, one of his most notable is the creation of the MacPaint application. As of 1996, Atikinson is a full-time photographer. Through his photographs, Atikinson attempts to "faithfully share his experiences" with others. Known for capturing intimate landscapes and close-up details, he has recently began exploring the details of cut and polished stones. However, for my emulation, I chose to focus on his photos of wildlife. These shots are typically either focused on an obvious subject or on an overall area, with a somewhat wider depth of field. The selection that I emulated were taken in various parts of the southeast of plants and trees similar to those in Alabama. Atkinson's photos were interesting to me because the colors really popped without being too bright or overwhelming. As I was taking my shots, I began to realize that there is more to Atkinson's photos than I first thought. While the shots seem somewhat simple in terms of composition, I actually had a hard time finding an intriguing composition. I realized that it really takes someone with a natural eye for that sort of thing to get a good shot. But towards the end of shooting my photos, I kind of started getting the hang of his style. I only ended up with a few good shots, but i think what I did get was a pretty valid attempt at Atkinson's style.
